Mary McGuiness
Mary McGuiness ENFP has 25 years experience teaching about personality theory and training professionals to use psychological type and related instruments, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® Instrument, the Majors Personality Type InventoryTM and the Management Team Roles IndicatorTM. Prior to this work Mary had 16 years experience teaching in Sydney High Schools and working as an education consultant. Mary also had several years training in special education at Macquarie University in Sydney.
Professional experience:
Mary is the founding Director of the Institute for Type Development (ITD), a national training organization that has been the leading provider of Accreditation in the use of the MBTI® instrument for 22 years and, more recently, the MajorsPTITM. Mary convened Australia’s first national conference on Psychological Type, which provided the launching pad for the formation of the Australian Association for Psychological Type (APT). Mary has served on the National Committee of the Australian APT for 10 years, with two years as National President, and was president of the Sydney Chapter for six years. While National President Mary, with the National Committee, was responsible for incorporating the association and developing the constitution and code of ethics. In 2006 Mary was given a “Life Membership Award” by Australian APT in recognition of her ‘outstanding contribution’ to the Association and to the type community in Australia and internationally.
As well as her work in the Accreditation of type practitioners, Mary is also involved regularly in training teachers and counsellors to apply type theory to improve the learning and well being of students.

Mary regularly presents at national and international conferences on personality type. She has also been invited as keynote speaker for several conferences. These include:
2006 keynote speaker to the first European Conference on Psychological Type in Brussels
2007 keynote speaker for the New Zealand National conference on Psychological Type in Wellington
2009 invited to present a one-day Symposium at the APTi conference in Dallas Texas
2010 keynote speaker at the Australian National APT conference in Sydney (September).
In recent years Mary has presented workshops across Australia and abroad, including London, Dublin, Brussels, New York, Burlington (Vermont), Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Wellington and Auckland.
Mary regularly presents at conferences and staff development days for school teachers. In recent years Mary has also presented at conferences for school principals, school administrators, librarians, law librarians, the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Transport Construction Authority, Kellogg (Aust), the Australian Taxation Office, and for the Australian military in such groups as the Battlespace Communications Operations Group (BCOG) and Financial Investigation Services (FIS).
